(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-2003-092
INSPECTION DATE: 3/7/05
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was conducted at the request of the pit operator and is part of the normal monitoring program
established by the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. Mr. Gray, the permit holder, and Paul Kessler, the
pit operator were present for the inspection.
The Gray Pit #1 is located north of Highway 50 and the Gunnison Canyon South Entrance. The reason for the
requested inspection was to discuss options concerning an expansion of the permit azea to include an entire ridge
that runs east to west and is the north boundary line. The operator has discovered through current excavations that
the gavel resource extends beyond the region first thought.
The inspector went to an upper northern ridge point by road to survey the site. It is clear that by extending the
permit boundaries to the north the operator will gain room for work, more materials and stockpiling. An additional
bonus appeazs to be the azea would be reclaimed in a more desirable fashion by eliminating the ridge hump that
would exist under the current plans. The though is the additional mining would create more agriculture or pond
azeas.
The operator will have to note if impacts to the overall drainage would be created under the new proposal. Other
issues may include if there is enough topsoil /overburden to cover the footprint of the mine when completed.
No other issues were noted or observed at this time.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phonE no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address cc:
^ CE
NAME: Nick Grav ^ BL
OPERATOR: same ^ FS
STREET: 584 65.30 Road ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Montrose.
