• (Page 2) •
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-81-277
INSPECTION DATE 11/11/98 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
OBSERVATIONS
This was an inspection of the Beach Hill Quarries conducted by Erica Crosby of the Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology. The inspection was conducted in response to an anonymous
citizen complaint letter received by the Division on October 13, 1996. The letter (signed
by Concerned) states the following;
" We would like to report that the people quarrying these quarries are not within the areas
permitted. They are even quarrying on to some one else's land on the north end of their
property into a different county. These quarries are permitted in Boulder County, above
Lyons."
Mike Loukonen was provided a copy of the anonymous citizen complaint letter. The Beach Hill
Quarries consist of 8 separate pits, which total a maximum disturbed area of 9.9 acres. The
citizen complaint letter is in regard to the most northerly quarry on the property, which is
called Helsinki. The Helsinki site is situated south of the Larimer-Boulder county line.
Either the operator or the adjacent landowner has recently surveyed the Boulder-Larimer
County Line. A portion of the pit, roughly 50 foot wide and 150 foot long, extends north
beyond the surveyed markers. However, the pit does fall within the permit boundary markers
that were established by the operator. It appears that this dispute is between the operator
and the adjacent landowner. Once the issue has been resolved, the operator will need to file
a revision or amendment to the permit clarifying the permit boundary.
The remaining quarries were also inspected. Permit boundary markers could not be located on
various sections of the 8 quarries. The operator will need to mark~the boundary locations
within 60 days of receipt of this report. The Division will conduct a follow-up inspection
after this date to verify boundary markers and affected areas.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Mike Loukonen
OPERATOR Loukonen Brothers
STREET 12993 N.
