This was an inspection performed to document the corxlttion of roads within the exploration tease of <br />Cottonwood Land Company NOIs CX-9t~219-00 and CX-96-219-01. Jim BumeA of DMG eras <br />accompanied by Janet Hook of the US Bureau of Land Management and escorted by Rick7ifR, <br />representing the Cottonwood Land Company. The inspection was conducted beginring at <br />approbrrrately 9 a.m., August 28, 1987, and tasted aA day. The weather was warm and clear. <br />The exploration is taking place within five USCiS 7.5' quadronglee: Hayden, Hayden Cirrlch, Breeze <br />Mountain, Mount Hams and Pagoda. AI told there aro approxlmatty 52.8 Mks of access road, of <br />which 4Z.1 ispro-existing private road, and appro>amatefy 10.5 does eat appear on existing maps. <br />Of the total road, we Unversed approximatety 45 Mks, inducting aA but 5 Mks of mapped road and <br />2 of unrapped road. <br />The roads were all In very good cor~tion. The operator had Improved and dressed most of the <br />existing roads, improving their condition and adding such features as water bars on steeper slopes. <br />Roads covered by vegetation when accessed were kfi that way, so many of the roads are covered <br />with pre-e~dstlng vegetation. <br />Several oT spedal note are as Totowa. Sites PDH 25, 28, and 29 are located just oft Roult County <br />Road ad the border of Hayden and Mount Haris quadrangles ere kxated in cuAivated fields. DriA <br />pads and roads wero plowed under to cuAivate alfaHa and wheat. Site FED1 is accessed by a dirt <br />ranch road that serves as the bed of an ephemeral stroam. Because of the wet weather, the stroam <br />was fiovvirg up to 200 gpm during our visit. The operator wit cut a ditch across the road and fiM it with <br />~vel to keep it troverseble during wet seasons. <br />The roads to aA ttrese additional driA sites were traversed and deterrined to be in exceAerd condrfion <br />just prior to the onset of trrxrting season: PDFF17, FED 38, FED 51, FED 49, FED 48, FED 9, FED <br />7, FED 47, FED 5, FED 45, FED 4, PDH 5, FED 25, FED 46, FED 28, FED 29, and PDH 3. The <br />corrdy road passing sites FED 28, 31 and 34 had been drossed and Improved. <br />AA the irQraverrents wero done with the approval of the surface owners as was the construction of <br />new lengths of road. his presumed at Ctrs time that the owners desiro that the new road be kept <br />nrther than rodsimed. <br />
