(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1981-058
INSPECTION DATE: 9-25-07
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of
Reclamation, Mining and Safety For permitted sites. The Debeque Pit is a 112c permitted site located west of
Debeque where I-70 and the Colorado River first intersect. Gayle Lyman, representative for Elam Construction
accompanied the inspectors on site.
Although the permit was issued in 1981, excavation on site was not initiated until January of 2003. The pit area is
approximately 4.6 acres of which 4 are now lake surface. A stockpile and staging area located south of the pit has
approximately 6.2 acres of disturbance as approved under TR-Ol .
The site is active. The inspector noted atruck /loader removing materials from a processed stockpile. The loader
remains on site. There is another stockpile of materials which appear at this time to have been in place for some
time given vegetative cover established upon it.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3,1.12.
The sign was located at the entrance to site of the main county road. Permit boundaries are primarily fence lines and
t-posts that are clearly visable.
No significant infestations ofnoxious or other problematic weeds were noted on site during this inspection. There is
an abundant crop of annual weeds but much of it has been mowed down.
The pit area was re-sloped in 2005. Although the slopes are ready for reseeding, no revegetation efforts have been
made to date. Cattails, cottonwood seedlings and some willows were observed. Annual weeds makeup the primary
under story cover at this time. Topsoil on the slopes is stable but wind and precipitation may be beginning to wear it
thin. It is highly recommended that the operator initiate revegetation of the slopes to prevent topsoil loss.
The inspector noted some recreational equipment at the site which is owned by the permit holder. The gear is not
related to mining activities but it should be cautioned that any release request for the site would have to take into
account any trash, tires or plastic within the permit area.
The Financial Warranty was reviewed in 2003. The Division will be updating the bond calculations to ensure it is
sufficient to cover reclamation liabilities.
No problems or violations are noted at this time.
