A site inspection of the Williams/Illinois Gravel Pit was wnducted as part of the Division's 4-year inspection program. <br />The site is located approximately 3 miles northwest of Rand in Jackson County. Present during the inspection was Richard <br />Wyatt. <br />2. The Williams/Illinois Gravel Pit is permitted for 9.9 acres. Dry mining techniques are employed. The site is actively <br />being mined, and material is being used to construct roads for the laridowner. The operator has posted a financial <br />warranty of $7,600 in the form of a Certificate of Deposit. The site will be reclaimed to rangeland. <br />3. All disturbances were found to be within the permit area. This inspector estimated the current disturbance to be an <br />excavation of 3-4 acres averaging 8' in depth, and surrounding stockpile area approximatey 5 acres in size. <br />Approximately 2-3 feet of overburden from the excavation area has been stripped and stockpiled. Approximately 0.5' of <br />topsoil from the excavation area has been stripped and stockpiled for use during reclamation. Mr. Wyatt indicated that <br />the pit excavation will extend downward another SO'. <br />4. An entrance sign was posted and permit boundary markers established as required by Rule 3.1.12. <br />5.
