Present during the inspection was Mr.
Berry Thorsen, the operator.
1) Site is a small 110 gypsum mine with a lots of per-law disturbance around the
permitted area of 9.9 acres. Even in the permitted acres, there is per- law
disturbance. The current affected area is less 34 acres. It will be to the operator's
advantage to submit a new map delineating the per- law affected acres to limit their
liability. When the permit was issued liabilities for such an operation is capped at
$2,500.00. However, such a cap is no longer applicable. Under the Minerals Rules and
Regulations, the Division has the authority to calculate the required warranty to
reclaim the site in accordance with the approved reclamation plan with no cap.
2) The current disturbance is approximately ~ acres. The warranty in place $2,500.00 is
adequate to cover the current disturbance, however, the operator was notified and
agreed that prior to moving in any new area, he will reclaim the current affected
area and provide proof in the form of pictures to show the current affected area has
been reclaimed in accordance with the approved reclamation plan.
3) Operator stated that the operation plans to mine bentonite along the North East side
of the current affected area with in the permit. He was notified as stated above
that prior to affecting any new area, the operator must reclaim the current affected
area and the disturbance not to exceed '~ acres. Mr. Thorsen agreed to provide the
proof. Avery small old 24 inch crusher was noted along rge North side of the
affected area.
4) Permit boundary markers and permit sign properly posted. Permit boundary markers
along the South West side of the permit area are difficult to~maintain given the
steep ridge, and the Division allows natural features as indicators.
5) At present the operation is in compliance with the approved reclamation plan and the
warranty appears to be adequate. If the proposed bentonite mining operation exceeds
the current affected area, the operator will provide an updated mining and
reclamation plan so the Division adjust the warranty accordingly.
I & E Confoct Address
NAME: CARLINA HENRY
OPERATOR: INDIAN SPRINGS MINING
STREET: 3957 C'R 67
CITY/STATE/ZIP: PFNR(~CF Cn R1940
cc: r CE
r Hw
r HMWMD (CH)
r
r SE
r WQCD (CH)
r OTHER
r BL
r FS,
