on the shop/warehouse area pad.
General Mine Plan Compliance. Kerr is inventorying the drill holes in the north area to determine
how many wells they are responsible for reclaiming. Jerry Nettleton from Montgomery Watson said
they have contacted drillers that are interested in reclaiming the holes. They will try to get the
reclamation done this year in conjunction with the drilling of the spoils well.
Fish and Wildlife. A flock of sage grouse was observed in the reclaimed area southwest of Pond B.
Several hens and chicks were seen. A large herd of antelope was also seen grazing on the reclaimed
lands.
Revegetation. Revegetation in the 720 Pit area and the Pit 1 area look good. Sage brush is
establishing at a heavy rate and several grasses and forbs were also observed. Vegetation is very
dry. Kerr Coal Company had cattle grazing the mine site in late June. Evidence of the grazing is
apparent over the mine site.
All areas where gully repairs were undertaken should be broadcast seeded this fall.
Past spraying for weed control has helped, but a number of weeds were observed throughout the
reclaimed areas. Canadian thistle is widespread and another thistle, possible leafy thistle is starting
to appear in several places. Weed control measures are necessary to contain and to control the
further spread of these species.
Offsite Support Facilities -Walden Loadout. Reclamation of the loadout looks good. An annual
mustard and lambsquarter dominate the vegetation, but this is common the first year afrer seeding. A
number of the native grasses and forbs seeded last fall are emerging and will take on greater
dominance in the coming years.
