III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection of the Hamilton Mine conducted by Harry Ranney of the DRMS.
Aerial photographs were taken on August 28, 2007 at approximately 3:41 p.m. Weather
conditions were partly cloudy at the time of the flight. Mike Boulay of the DRMS reviewed the
aerial photographs.
Five photos were taken during the flyover. The entire Mine Area 1 and Sedimentation Ponds A
and B were visible in the photographs. The mine site appeared mostly dry with vegetation
beginning to turn brown. An aerial overview of the mine site is provided in Photograph Number
1 at the end of this report.
Roads leading to Mine Area 1 and to the sedimentation ponds appeared to be dry and well
maintained. There was no activity noted at the site during the flyover.
Sedimentation Ponds A and B were viewed. Both Pond A and Pond B are dry. Pond inlets and
embankments appeared to be stable and no problems were noted at either sediment pond
location. Pond A and Pond B are shown in attached Photograph Numbers 2 and 3, respectively.
No problems or areas of concern were noted in any of the aerial photographs.
