(Page 3)
MINE ID f OR PT~oS ECTING ID i~ N-82-131
INSPECTION DATE, ~ 13 94 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GSC
It should be no~~ed that the Division is not aware of any monitoring well system associated
with the BuckleaPdt which could be used to provide supporting or contradictory data related
to injury claime'~.
Regionsl Hydrology
According to the Division of Water Resources, recent data indicates that the Greeley area is
in a drought pe io(l. Water level drops of a few feet have been attributed to this drought.
This may be refl~ec~ed in the recent drop in the level of the pond north of Mr. Andrewe• place
and may also paktiially explain the static water level drop in his wells.
Findings
1. Mr. Andrewe has experienced a water level drop in the last year in two wells located about
900 feet eouth~,est of the Bucklen pit. Mr. Andrews believes the water level has dropped
about 8 feet. ~qe~current level was measured at about 17 feet bql. The current water level
in the dewateringf pit ie about 25 feet bgl.
2. A drop of 4 t0 5 feet has occurred during the past year in a pit located about 500 feet
north of the Andrews wells.
3. There is apparently no mitigation agreement between the Bucklen Equipment Co. and Mr.
Andrewe for damage to his we1Le.
4. The Andrewe wells are more than 600 feet from the Bucklen Pit which is the distance
generally u~edipl Identifying wells which can potentially be impacted.
5. The water level measuremeni:s completed during the inspection verified that the alluvial
aquifer has not.been depleted in Mr. Andrews' deep well. The fact that the deeper well
experiences prod~uc#ion drop meiy be a function of the well itself. At this point, there is
not enough info at,ion and Mr. Andrews will need to provide completion data to the Division
before the sour~6 of this problem can be determined. Necessary information includes the
drillers reportii~and lithologic logs, well completion reports, the depth at which the
submersible pump~,is set, and how and when the well was developed.
6. There is inauPficient data at this time to determine the cause for the water level drop
in Mr. Andrewe' water wells. The cause might be attributed to a regional drought, dewatering
activities in theg[avel operation, a combination of the two, or to an unrelated phenomenon.
The operator neeileto submit to the Division a plan for verifying if dewatering activities
have impacted Mr. Andrews' wells or some documentation demonstrating that the operation has
not impacted the wells. This should be received by the Division no later than 7/8/94.
Due to the lack ol` site specific monitoring information, the operator should determine if any
local monitoringl'Idata exists which might establish a relationship between Mr. Andrew' wells,
the dewatering activities and to the effects of the local drought on wells in the vicinity.
Information can b@ obtained from the following agencies: The Central Colorado Water
Conservancy DietiS.ctt, Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, Lakewood Branch of the
USGS, Water Resou7dcee Division and the Northern Front Range Water Quality Planning
Association. The'resulte should be included with the dewatering impact report due on 7/8/94.
Z & E Contact Address
NAME Richard Bucklen
---~•-
OPEAATOR Bucklen~E4u ipment Company, Inc.
STREET 804 No~th 25th Avenue
CITY/STATEJZIP Glteelev, Colorado 80631
cc: Carl Mount,DMG
Elmer Andrews
Shawn Hoff - OSE
~ CE
~ BL
~ FS
^ ~`'
~ HMWMD (CH)
SE
WQCD (CH)
~ OTHER
