Present at the inspection were Kate Pickford, DMG, and Walter Serfoss, La Plata County.
Weather at the time of the inspection was clear, calm, and approximately 45 degrees.
2. Access to this site is gained off of Hwy 160, just west of the intersection of Hwy 550, on the north side of
the highway. A sign is posted at the entrance to the site and the permit boundaries are easily identified
in the field. The site consists of an excavated area with stockpiles of topsoil and material located
outside of the pit. A portion of the site is currently being used for storage of equipment and construction
materials belonging to the county. In that the materials being stored are in good, usable condition and
the county is the landowner, no revision to the current permit is necessary to allow for the storage of
these materials onsite
3. The southern edge of the site currently consists of a berm with an access road that serves as a 30 foot
setback from the property boundary. To the south of the berm, the property falls away from the site in
the form of a naturally occurring slope down to the level of the adjacent highway. Although the
information contained in the conversion application for this site specifies that a 30 foot buffer will be
maintained along the property boundaries of the site, the setback along this portion of the site is not
necessary for stability, access, or reclamation activities. Removal of this berm, in fact, would be
beneficial to the final topography of the site and the post-mined land use. Therefore, if the county
desires to remove the material composing this berm, it may submit a technical revision to the permit
indicating that a 30 foot buffer along this portion of the site will not be maintained, and that this berm
material will be removed. As long as the resulting configuration of the site will not result in runoff from
the site, the Division will consider the revision for approval.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Walter Serfoss
OPERATOR: La Plata Coup}y Road and Bridge
STREET: 1'~l,.S C Camino foal Rin
CITY/STATE/ZIP: f~urnngn Cn R13(13
cc: ^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WOCD (CH)
X OTHER: Harry Posey, DMG
