III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Seneca II Mine conducted by Erica Crosby of DMG. No company
representative was present during the inspection. The Seneca II Mine status is active. Both the
Wadge and Wolf Creek Pits are open, and roughly 70 to 80 tons of coal is exposed and will be
removed. Both pits are on their final cut. The inspection involved viewing two aerial photographs
taken by Harry Ranney of DMG on May 9, 1997.
Roads The haul road leading to the Wolf Creek Pit appeared functional and in good repair.
Hvdrolopic Balance Patches of snow cover were noted by the Wolf Creek Pit. Two stock tanks near
the pit contained water and appeared to be discharging. No major erosion features were noted
around the open Wolf Creek and Wadge Pits.
Backfillino & Gradino Both the Wadge and Wolf Creek Pits are open, and are on their final cut.
Backfilled areas appeared stable, and no erosion problems were noted.
