III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br />during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection <br />and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />This was a partial inspection of the Seneca II Mine conducted by Erica Crosby of DMG. No company <br />representative was present during the inspection. The Seneca II Mine status is active. Both the <br />Wadge and Wolf Creek Pits are open, and roughly 70 to 80 tons of coal is exposed and will be <br />removed. Both pits are on their final cut. The inspection involved viewing two aerial photographs <br />taken by Harry Ranney of DMG on May 9, 1997. <br />Roads The haul road leading to the Wolf Creek Pit appeared functional and in good repair. <br />Hvdrolopic Balance Patches of snow cover were noted by the Wolf Creek Pit. Two stock tanks near <br />the pit contained water and appeared to be discharging. No major erosion features were noted <br />around the open Wolf Creek and Wadge Pits. <br />Backfillino & Gradino Both the Wadge and Wolf Creek Pits are open, and are on their final cut. <br />Backfilled areas appeared stable, and no erosion problems were noted. <br />
