Location Estimated discharge
Lowermost West Ridge
Pond >25 gpm
Southern Moffat Spoil
Springs (flowing into Significant flow beneath
south end of Moffat boulders
pond)
Moffat pond discharge >100 gpm
(NPDES outfall 004)
Impact to Trout Creek -To assess the impact of Edna Mine's spoil spring dischargs on Trout Creek, I
measured field conductivity in the creek upstream and downstream from the Edna Mine. Field
conductivity was ] ] 0 umhos/cm immediately upstream from the mine, and was 300 umhos/cm
approximately 4 miles downstream from the mine. These values indicate that the spoil spring
discharges were not causing an exceedance of Trout Creek's 1000 umhos/cm material damage suspect
level for irrigation water.
Monitoring wells -Spoil well WR-]'s surface casing was in good condition and a cap was in place.
SUPPORT FACILITIES
No problems were found in the former lower facilities area next to Oak Creek.
REVEGETATION
Cover and diversity. Plant growth is much thicker throughout the site than last spring's growth during
the drought. Cover is relatively sparse in the non-topsoiled portion of the West Ridge area, southwest
of the West Ridge Road. The topsoiled parts of the West Ridge area were relatively densely covered
with alfalfa, yellow sweet clover, a vaziety of grasses, and lesser amounts of sage brush and bitter
brush. Moffat area cover and diversity appears good. Woody shrubs are coming along well. Cover is
good on the reclaimed former conveyor belt strip next to the Goat Trail and appears to be controlling
erosion.
Weeds. Weed control is needed on the conveyor belt corridor where there are patches of Whitetop
(Hoary cress) and abundant houndstongue. A patch of thistle needs control on the reclaimed slope on
east side of the Lower Moffat Road, just south of the switchback that leads down to the Moffat pond
(SW 1/4 Sec. 31).
SLIDES AND DAMAGE
Slopes appeared stable throughout the site. No slope instability was evident on the hillslope above Oak
Creek . I drove up the Goat Trail to check for erosional and slope stability (and vegetative cover). No
problems were found. The small slide area noted in last month's report appears to be stable. The
operator has removed rocks from the Goat Trai] road.
4
