Test Plots

Tabulation, analysis, and interpretation of the soil and plant data is
not yet available. We will make a concerted effort to provide you :Dome
information in the next year. Personnel reductions and reorganizations have
curtailed the time available to process and distribute this data. 4Ie regret
any inconvenience this delay has caused.
Urad Reservoir
The report is incorrect in stating that Urad Reservoir is used as "part
of the functioning mine." Discharge permit CO-0000230 describes outfall 001
as the "outfall from the final settling pond into the transport pipeline to
lower Urad Reservoir" (see attachments 1-4 hereto) Thus, there is no basis
for including it within the definition of "affected land."
We also note that Urad Reservoir occupies land "affected" by a prior
operation that has already been reclaimed. Thus, even if the reservoir might
otherwise meet the definition of "affected land," there would be no basis for
including it within the permit boundaries.
Gravel Pits
The gravel pits' usefulness to us has not ceased. We presently have
segregated stockpiles of aggregate stored in the area and have indications of
the availability of more materials unexcavated which could serve future plant
needs.
It would not be prudent to reclaim this area now only to redisturb it in
the future to obtain needed sand, gravel, and rock resources.
Mill Area
It was asked during the inspection if cyanide was still used. I re-
marked that we had drastically curtailed or eliminated its use in the mills
in 1982. Upon further checking, it was learned that we do not use it in the
primary mills but only in the regrind mills. Cyanide was previously used
more widely in the milling process until 1982 but is now being used at a rate
of 0.01 pounds per ton in the regrind mills.
If any further information is required, please give me a call.
Sincerely,
~~~~ .
Charles L. Jackso
Resource Manager
(3)
