INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2
FILE N0. M-85-022
GATE: September 11, 1985
OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE:
1. The inspectors were accompanied by Mr. Warren Rich during this
inspection. The site was in operation. The mine plan was being fo~lowed.
Operations appeared to be in the previously disturbed area. The pe,mit
application was not on site. See Recommendation No. 1.
2. The permit boundary was located by Mr. Rich. It was discussed that permit
boundaries should be clearly located to avoid working outside the p~rmit
boundaries. See Recommendation No. 2.
3. Three settling ponds were constructed on site below the Phase I, area.
These ponds were poorly constructed and are in need of maintenance 'pnd
cleaning. One of the fresh water ponds was used as a settling pond. Disposal
of sediment was discussed in that this material could be used for possible
reclamation and backfilling. It was also discussed that the ponds ~eed to be
dressed up, graded and stabilized prior to winter shutdown. It was, discussed
that silt fences would improve sediment control if located up from the decant
culvert inlets. See Recommendation No. 3
4. It was discussed that spline tundra reclamation is difficult anp areas
should not be disturbed unless needed.
5. The inspectors appreciate Mr. Rich's cooperation during this inspection.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
J 1. Please keep a copy of mine plan maps an a copy of the permit ap lication
document on site. This will aid in operation and compliance with tie permit
and state law.
2. Mark, stake or flag permit boundaries to avoid problems with possible
working outside of the permit boundaries.
3. Grade the crests and outslopes of ponds for stabilization. Cle n ponds to
allow for sediment control for the upcomming spring snow melt runof This
work should be performed no later than November 1, 1985. A brief d scription
and photo documentation o this wor sou e su muted to the Div Sion.
3564F/yt
cc: Mr. Warren Rich
