MINERAL COUNTY MINEfl
Creede, CO
(Mineral Counry)
Thu, 1,D66
P~ ~n -7?_zi ' ,
omestake~t~•
. ,,~~
s e 11 s outf ~t
By Nare McMakon
As part of the final reclamation of
Homestake Mining Co.'s Bulldog
Mine, most of the remaining build-
ings and mining equipment at the
mice have bcen sold to Cintar Equip-
atent Co. Inc., of Parker.
The sale took place late last month,
said Bob Boppe, a Homestake engi-
neer. The only buildings Homestake
still owns are the office, :icsay lab and
water tanks; and the only equipment
is the heavy machinery being usedto
reclaim the land, although Cintar will
take possession of those when recla-
mation is complete.
Bill Martinic, president of Ciotar,
said the assets the firm bought from
Hotnestake are in goodcondition. He
declined to discuss the price agreed
to by HOmestake and Cintar, how-
ever, as did Bo~pe.
~Cintar is trot a mining firm, it is a
company which buys ail kinds of
equipment and then sells to needy
companies.lt has beenbased in Parker
for about 6 years, said Martinic, and
is about g years old. Previously, Cintar
was based in Denver and Englewood.
Boppe said the sale of the equip-
ment and buildings is helping the
reclamation process.
"They're tearing buildings dowo
like crazy," he said. "We sold the
water treatment plartt, warehouses,
the machine shop and storage sheds.
All our mill and mining equipment
was sold, and the only things we kept
were the office equipment and our
rolling stock."
The roll ing stock includes two load-
ers, a Kenwotth track, a tractor, two
pickup trucks and a Ford Bronco.
Wheo Homestake has finished re•
claiming the mine area, that equip-
nientwill revert to Cintar.
Boppe said the recPamation i~pro-
gressing slowly, but still progress-
ing.
"Right now we're working on the
lower tailings pond and the loading
ramp neaz Wason Ranch. The tail-
ings pond has been breached and
seeded, and after a little more reseed-
ing it will be done.
"The North Amethyst -what
people call the Equity - is done.
We've also sealed all the adits. The
mine site needs to be reclaimed, but
we won't get all that done this year.
"As they move nut the buildings,
though, we move right in behind them
and do the reclamaion work."
Boppe has said in previous inter-
views that the entire area will most
likely be reclaimed by late summer
or fall 1994.
