Elk Creek C-1981-022
24 May 2006
p9 2/2
Processing Waste: -All of the refuse at the West Valley Fill has been spread and
compacted. This includes the coal fines from the Pond B cleaning (that were removed from
the East Yard Pond). There were, however, several piles of dirt from ditch and sump
cleaning that need to be spread and compacted. There was some debris in these piles that
needs to be removed before spreading and compacting, as it is not allowed to be in the
refuse pile. We drove on the pile and it appeared to be well compacted and stable at the
time of the inspection.
- The II-West Valley Fill was still not being used for refuse disposal at the time of the
inspection. The pile area appeared to be stable and no erosional problems were noted.
Topsoil: -The Elk Creek topsoil pile was well vegetated and stable at the time of the
inspection. No erosional problems were noted.
- The topsoil by the Sanborn Creek fan was well vegetated and stable at the time of the
inspection. No erosional problems were noted.
Support Facilities: -The Hubbard Creek fan pad was stable at the time of the inspection.
No erosional problems were noted on the pad. D-Seam dewatering hole DW-1, which is
buried, has been marked with a fence post as requested. The sump D2B2 and the utility
borehole DG-1 were both ok at the time of the inspection.
-The Sanborn Creek fan site was stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional
problems were noted.
- The substation #3 pad was stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional problems
were noted.
- On of the two temporary office trailers that are being replaced with the MR-78 facilities
expansion has been removed. The other trailer was being removed at the time of the
inspection.
RevegetationlReclamation Success: -The reclaimed East Yard refuse pile was stable and
well vegetated at the time of the inspection. There were no erosional problems noted on the
pile.
- The reclaimed portions of the West Valley Fill were stable and well vegetated at the time of
the inspection. No erosional problems were noted on the pile. The riprapped diversion
ditches on the sides of the reclaimed pile were stable at the time of the inspection.
-The lower portions of the light use roads for the gob vent boreholes in the Bear Creek area
that were reclaimed in the fall of 2005 were stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional
problems were noted. There was a fair amount of vegetation beginning to grow on the
roads. The remaining upper portions of the roads and the drill pads will be inspected later in
the summer.
Overall, the Elk Creek and Sanborn Creek Mine site is in good condition.
