Colowyo C-1981-01
14 December 200
Pg 3/3
Fish and Wildlife: -Approximately 30 elk were crossing the haul road about'/a-mile
below the office/facilities area when I arrived on site.
- There were several deer (a buck and several doe) around the East Taylor Pond.
- There were approximately 10 mule deer, including a fairly large 4x4 buck, on the
reclaimed area above the East Taylor pond.
- There were several mule deer on the light-use road along the five sumps and on the
way to the West Pit and East Taylor ponds,
Revegetation: -The approximately 100 acres that were topsoiled this year have been
seeded. The seeding was just completed as I arrived on site.
-The reclamation on the older portions of the East Pit remain well vegetated and
stable.
Excess Spoil: -The West Pit spoil pile appeared to be stable at the time of the
inspection. There were no signs of cracking or settling in the fill. No erosional
problems were noted. The lower portion of the pile has been reclaimed and is well
vegetated and stable. The upper portion of the pile is truck-dumped spoil. The
reclamation plan calls for the top 75 feet of this pile to be hauled to the West Pit to
achieve AOC.
Special Categories of Mining (Highwall Miner): -The highwall miner has completed
mining in the C-seam in the East Pit and the areas that were ready in the West Pit.
Kurtis Blunt indicated that the highwall miner was being demobilized from the site
and taken to another project. He was unsure when it would return. This brings up the
question of reclamation and variances from contemporaneous reclamation for both
the East and West Pits. CCC and the Division will need to discuss these issues to
determine what will be done as it relates to these issues and final reclamation of the
site.
Minor Revision 76 -Regraded Spoil Sampling and a copy of Maps 11 and 11 A and 28
and 28A at 1 ":1000" scale were hand delivered during permitting discussions on 15
December 2005. We also discussed the Technical Revision 62 adequacy comments
with Dan Mathews of CDMG on a conference call.
Overall, the operations and reclamation at the Colowyo Mine are being conducted
in accordance with the approved plans contained within the PAP. The operation is
doing a good job ensuring compliance with all of the Rules.
