IH. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Tom Kaldenbach and Dan Hernandez of CDMG. Rick Mills
represented the operator.
The mine has been in temporary cessation for several years. A small maintenance crew was on-site. The
ground was wet from rain the night before. The weather was hot and dry.
RECORDS AVAILABILITY: The records checklist is attached.
SIGNS AND MARKERS:Mine i.d. signs, stream buffer signs, and topsoil markers were properly displayed.
During the inspection the operator's representative replaced several disturbance area boundary markers that
had fallen off their posts; he said a new kind of marker will be used in the future. He also installed a new
topsoil marker on the stockpile near pond 9AP4.
ROAD : In excellent shape. The 2 holes in the road on the bridge across the Williams Fork River that were
mentioned in the last inspection report have been filled with rock.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE: The only water on the site, other than the Williams Fork River, was the discharge
from we117 Angle IV (which feeds ponds 9P2 and 9P3), the water in the wastewater treatment pond, and the
flow at the Strip pit v-notch weir (outfatl 022). Field parameters were:
Location Ec (µmhos) PH Temp. ° C
7 Angle N well
standpipe 1000 7.5 16
9P3 pond outfall 1200 8.6 19
Ponds- The embankments and inslopes of all ponds were well-vegetated and appeared stable. Spillways
appeared to be in good condition.
Cu/ve-is - No problems were found. Erosion at inlets or outlets was not evident.
Dkches -All appeared to be maintained to design specs.
Monltorfng wells- No problems were found with monitoring wells other than a cap is needed on AVF-5. The
operator's representative said the cap will be replaced.
~K
