111. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the Inapsction. The comments include dbcuselon of <br />obssrvatlons made during the Inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement <br />actions taken during the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the <br />enforcement action. <br />This was a complete inspection of the Marr Snip Mine that was cortduc~ted in phases. <br />The badart and Pit 1 were inspected an June 15, records wero dlecked at Montgorrlery <br />Watson in Steartiboat on June 17 and~Uls mdn mine area, facilities and ttre 720 Area <br />were inspected on June 18, 1999. Jim Mwemen was on site the 18'". Recent rams <br />created nrrrddy conditions on June 15. On June 18, the ground and roads were moist <br />due to rains the previous day. All areas were acwsaibk by jeep and/or walking. <br />AvaNabiMd of Records <br />Records wero checked at the Montgomery Watson Office on Thursday, June 17. See <br />attached checklist. Records are up m date. <br />Roads <br />Roads were wet and nlrrddy on both the 15'" and 1 S'", although they were passable. <br />Some standing water was;n the road d'rtcfres, but the drainage was good. The culverts <br />were dear. Roads have been meirrtdnsd and were in overdl good condition. <br />Hvdrolooic Bdanca <br />Ponds were checked on the 18'". Pond G was dry. Ponds A, B, C, D, E and F were <br />holdNrg water, a small ttidde was discharging from Pond E. No other ponds were <br />~• <br />Tha drainage diadt leadirp to Pond E has eroded and needs some maintenance. <br />Perrnarlerrt draMage ditch PD-1 hekt up weN over the winter, little sdditional erosion was <br />observed and vegetation is estabiishirp in the ditch. Ditch PD-2 is in good corldrtion. <br />Backfipirlo and Gradirg <br />The smell skarlp at Pit 1 ~d not progress much over the winter. h appears stable. <br />The guNies in the older reclamation area above Pond D have clot yet been repaired. Jim <br />Mosamen said he plans m do some work an them soon. vdten the c~rrldi'tiorls are fully <br />dry. Anolhsr irltermitterlt guNy was observed on the rodainled slope, east of the <br />haulroad in the drainage lesdirlg to Pond E. In a couple of plecee, it was approximately <br />18 inches deep, but oNy a carple of indles in others. There are a couple of spots <br />where it appeare them could be active headcrrttlrlg. Mr. Mossman said he would look at <br />it and evaluate what repairs may be rleoessary. <br />Reveoststiar <br />The revegetation is maturing and there do not appear to be nearly as many weeds as <br />what I observed last summer. In the Pit 1 area, I observed numerous forts in flower <br />Including flax, lupine, primrose, milkvetch, and a penstemon. Neither the grasses or <br />ssverd other iorba were M bloom yet. Bq sagebrush b condrlg in and appears to be <br />faNty dense. Fringed sage is abundant. <br />
