At this time it appears that
only M-99-014 has any drrect issues for Western to address. Staff's main concern there is that the
potential for a problem be averted. Loose fine material could end up in the wetlands/ spring area and
create a sedimentation problem. Also, topsoil seams sufficient but it appears that some is being used for
other purposes and may be getting close to being insufficient.
As for the Corey Pit (M-1987-0240), there aze 2 issues that will be addressed with the permitee and
current contract operator. However, they do have some implications for someone looking to take over
the operation of the pit. A bond calculation will be done as we discussed. The inspector revisited the
site after leaving Western's office to measure soil stockpiles for an accurate bond recalculation. The
recalculation should be done in the next 2 weeks.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no.
970.241.1117.
Sincerely,
~~~i~~~~
G.
