(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-87-024
INSPECTION DATE 8-16-02
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was conducted at the request of Western Gravel, Inc. Western is interested in taking over the lease of this
site and requested a review of the file and bond for an accurate assessment of the site. Milan Hawxby, representative for
Western accompanied the inspector on site.
The mine identification sign and affected area boundary markers are in place and in compliance with Rule 3.1.12. The sign
was posted at the entrance to the site. T-posts, fence lines and daylighted areas delineated the permitted site.
Noxious and/or problematic weed infestation was observed within the affected area. The infestation, if not controlled, will most
likely hinder and/or delay successful reclamation of this site and contribute to off-site spreading and establishment of these
weeds. A weed control plan developed in consultation with, and approved by, the appropriate local weed control authority must
be submitted as a technical revision to this permit. Weed infestation is noted as a problem, with the corrective action(s) and
correction date specified on the last oaoe of this report. Significant progress toward control of on-site weeds must be
demonstrated within three years to avoid potential Board action. A copy of this report will be sent to the appropriate weed
control authority for this area. Specifically, an infestation of knapweed was observed at the southwest end of the pit at the tce
of the highwall slope.
There appears not to be enough topsoil and overburden to complete reclamation of the current sight. Detailed measurements
of available topsoil and overburden were taken. The operator of the pit is advised to do their own soil balance to demonstrate
that there is enough topsoil on hand to do reclamation. DMG staff will do its own evaluation and should insufficient amounts
be found the recalculated bond will reflect the cost for importation of any deficient amounts. This is beinc listed as a problem
within this report until either the soil balance is completed or the bond increased.
Slopes of the highwall area along the southern pit edge appear to be 3h:1 v. No erosion or sedimentation was noted. An area
in the south east portion of the pft has been excavated out of the 3h:iv slope. An old refrigerated appears to have been
dumped here.
At the request of Western, a bond calculation will be done within the next 2 weeks. The recalculation will update the current
bond for conditions as is and also show some assumed scenarios if the permit is converted to a 112c.
No other issues were noted at this time.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rtl Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address
cc:
NAME
OPERATOR
STREET
CITY/STATE/ZIP
Robert Corev
United Co.
62237 Spring Creek Rd.
Montrose.
