F •
~ (Page 2)
MINE ID f OR PROSPECTING ID / N-94-117
INSPECTION DATE 5 7 96
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ACS
The i.netallation of the land application system for water collected and pumped up from the
Haze].-A adit was inspected. Four parallel pipelines with three sprinkler heads on each line
have been installed in the area above the tailing pond. Plumbing in the mill building ie
provided that will allow pumping of Hazel-A water into the land application system directly
from the Hazel-A pump, or, alternatively, from the steady head tanks located at the northeast
cornEer of the mill building. The land application system was charged momentarily so that the
function of the sprinklers could be observed, and it was observed that the eyetem operated
as intended.
The steady head tanks are fouled with sediment, and need to be flushed-out prior to
utilization in the land application system. The operator has been using water pumped up from
the liazel-A ad it to flush the tanks for the last several weeks, with the slurry from the
flushing operation being discharged to the pond. Flushing of the steady head tanks needs to
continue to be the priority use of Hazel-A water until such time that the tanks are
completely cleaned. Once the tanks are clean, the operator may contact the Division for
authorization to land apply Hazel-A water in order to facilitate drying-up of the tailing
pond..
The spray evaporation eyetem in the tailing pond was inspected. The two spray evaporation
lines are now charged by separate pumps, and a total of 80 spray heads have been installed.
One eipray head was missing, with water shooting out directly from the manifold into the pond.
Rich:srd Fox stated that this spray head would be re-installed by the afternoon of the day of
the inspection. The pipe stands used to support the spray evaporation lines are generally
too i:limey to support the weight, and should be bolstered with hay bales or otherwise. All
other aspects of the spray evaporation eyetem were operating ae intended.
Colorado Lining Company was on site at the time of this inspection to repair pond liner
damage that occurred as a result of traffic on the liner during installation and operation
of the spray evaporation eyetem. Several of the new liner repairs were inspected and found
to bfa acceptable.
The operator intends to recover some gold values from concentrates that were accidently
diecliarged to the tailing pond at some time during past milling operations. The Division has
no problems with the reprocessing of materials from the pond ae long as containment of
tailings and process water is adequately assured. To that end, the operator has installed
the required curbing in the mill building at all man-doors and overhead-doors. This curbing
was inspected and found acceptable. Also, during operations to recover concentrates from the
pond„ no new solids, liquids, or chemicals may be introduced. The operator may not process
or discharge tailings that are currently stored in the large thickener tank, and may not
process the ore that is stored in the ore bins.
cc: Carl Mount, DMG
Richard Fanyo
Dufford and Brown, P.C.
1700 Broadway, Suite 1700
Denver, CO 80290
Earl K.
