The following is the rectau~ation plan by pit: <br />Pit A. Pit A is approximately 135 acres in size. The original topography <br />s-loped from west to east with a shale outcropping forming the north and <br />west boundaries. The Highland Ditch bisected this area. This ditch was <br />relocated and forms the north and east boundary of the pit. Between the <br />shale outcrop on the north and the original ditch line was a dryland pas- <br />ture with little or no topsoil present. Only tough dryland vegetation <br />survived there. To the south of the original ditchline was farmland irri- <br />gated with water obtained from the Swede Ditch. This farmland produced <br />crops such as oats and pasture. A farm was located in the southwest part <br />of the pit. <br />Overburden from the north one-third of the pit was placed to the <br />southeast of the pit. This fornied a hill approximately 50 feet high that <br />has been sloped and seeded with dryland pasture mix• <br />Overburden from the center one-third of the pit and waste shale from <br />the north one-half of the pit is placed into the area designated waste <br />area 82. <br />When mining is complete in the north half of this pit, the mined out <br />area will be filled with shale and overburden from the south half of the <br />pit. This mined out area may serve as a stockpile area for awhile before <br />being reclaimed. The sha]e will be placed in the bottom of the pit and <br />brought up to within 2 feet of finish grade. Then 18 to 24 inches of <br />overburden (a sandy clay) will be spread over the top. This will be topped <br />off with 4 to 6 inches of topsail. The topsoil was stockpiled when the <br />area was first stripped. This will provide 24 to 30 inches of tillable <br />soil. The area will then be seeded with irrigated pasture mix and ferti- <br />lized with commercial fertilizer. <br />When mining is complete in the south half of the pit, there will be no <br />material to fill in the mined out pit. This pit will fill up from ground <br />water seepage and seepage from pearby irrigation ditches to create a lake <br />approximately 75 acres in size which can be used for recreation and possi- <br />bly residential. The area around the lake will be reclaimed with approxi- <br />mately 18 inches of overburden and 4 to 6 inches of topsoil. This will <br />then be seeded with dryland pasture mix. <br />The area between Pit A and Pit C constitutes about 25 acres. This <br />area is utilized as a temporary ore stockpile area. This area will be <br />reclaimed in the same manner as the north half of Pit A. <br /> <br /> i,. <br />:S ~' ~ ~ <br />
