TECHNICAL REVISION
RECLAMATION PLAN
MARTIN MARIETTA CEMENT
LYONS, COLORADO
Pit E. Pit E is approximately 70 acres in size and is a dryland pasture
area. The land slopes from west to east. This area is used extensively
for grazing.
Mining will progress from south to north. Top soil will be
temporarily stockpiled on the south s-ice of hi: a pit. Waste shale will
initially be taken to the mined out regions of Pits A and B. When mining
has progressed far enough, the waste shale and overburden will be placed
into the mined out area. When mining is complete in this pit, waste
shale from Pits A, C, and D will be deposited into the final mined out
area. The lake previously planned will be eliminated, putting the entire
region back to pasture.
Pit F. Pit F, which lies directly east of Pit E, is approximately 70
acres in size. This is a continuation of the dryland pasture of Pit E.
This area also slopes from west to east and is used for grazing.
Mining will progress from south to north as in Pit E. The
topsoil will first be stripped off a~tockpiled. When mining has pro-
gressed substantially, the mined out area will be filled with waste shale
taken out in front of the mining operation. Eighteen inches of clay
overburden and six inches of topsoil will Cover the shale. This will be
seeded with dryland pasture mix. The topography will tie in with Pit E
and will be the same as the original topography. The lake planned in the
original reclamation plan will be eliminated by filling in the final
mined out area with excess material from Pits A, C and D.
