The Dickerson Pit is located approximately 5 miles west of Gunnison, Colorado on Highway
50. Mr. Warren Wilcox, operator's representative accompanied the inspectors on the inspection.
The mine sign was posted at the entrance to the site. A large industrial gate controls access to the site. Some t-posts
and fence lines mark permit boundaries but not very clearly. The disturbed areas aze well within the permit
boundaries so this is not an issue at this time.
The site has had some activity with loading out of stockpiles noted. $oulders and reject materials are being
stockpiled to help re-establish slopes after excavation is complete. Currentlymaterialsare being pushed down from
the top of the ridge. No significant highwalls were noted. The Forest Service has begun the fmal approvals for
additional excavation. The Division is requesting that when the operator receives final documentation from the
Forest Service that a copy is forwazd for the file.
Little or no reclamation has occurred to date. The primary reason is limited workspace and steep slopes of current
mining. Topsoil piles are separate from other materials. It is noted that very little natural topsoil is on site.
No major erosion or sedimentation issues are noted. Evidence indicates that stormwater control measure retain
precipitation on site.
There is some mine related equipment and scrap on site. Crusher screening, a grizzly, and storage trailer were
observed on site. The inspector did note a 55-gallon barrel of what appeazs to be used oil outside of any secondary
containment. The operator should keep all barrels, pails and other storage containers for petroleum products in
secondary containment. The inspector will list the lack of prouer oil storage or containment as an issue of concern
at the end of this reuort with a conrective action /date. Failure to comply will result in the issue being converted to a
problem and more severe corrective actions.
No noxious weeds or problematic vegetation were observed.
The bond for this site is due for a periodical review. No significant changes have occurred since the last update.
Therefore, staff will update the bond using accepted tasks and volumes.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address cc:
^ CE
NAME: Warren Wilcox ^ BL
OPERATOR: Gunnison Gravel ^ FS
STREET: P.O.
