(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M_t994-n9d
INSPECTION DATE: 9-Q-n~ INSPECTOR=S INITIALS: -~D.__
OBSERVATIONS
Completed apre-operation inspection at this site pursuant to requirements of Rule 3.2(7).
The operator of the existing 8-acre permit submitted a conversion application to increase the permit area by 67
acres. The additional acreage lies south and east of the existing permit area. The site is located at the Junction
of County Road P and State Highway 142, about 2 miles south of new San Acaclo.
the required notice has been posted.
The operator is currently mining a terraced area on the south side of an east-west trending valley. The sand and
gravel is being mined to a depth of 2030 feet; down to the valley floor elevation.
Undisturbed areas are comprised mainly of rabbitbrush, sagebrush with very little grass understory.
The west side of the proposed added acreage is adjacent to SH 142. Most of the south boundary abuts up to
County Raad P. The southeast and east portion of the proposed permit boundary is delineated by the
abandoned San Luis Valley Southern Railroad right-of-way.
There are three signs at the junction of CR P and SH 142 (SE corner) warning of an underground fiberoptlcs cable
and telephone cable. The utilities appear to run E-W on the south side of CR P. If these man-made structures are
within 200 feet of the proposed affected land area, the operator must comply with Exhibit S requirements.
The operator shows an old landfill on Exhibit A map. Currently, the area contains mostly concrete and asphalt
waste. The area is inside the existing permit.
Observed a large elecfic transmission line on the east side of the proposed expanded area; possibly within 200
feet of the proposed affected land. Might need to be addressed in Exhibit 5.
Did not observe any problems.
I & E Contact Address
NAME: Mathew Valdez
OPERATOR: Castilla Count
STREET: x.59 Main StrP P.t
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Snm I uic Cr) R 1 159
Harry Posey (e-mail)
cc: r CE
r BL
r FS
r HW
r HMWMD )CH)
r sE
r wQCD (cH)
r OTHER
