III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of Minerals
and Geology, This former underground mine was reclaimed and reseeded in 1996 and early
1997. The weather was unseasonably warm and breezy. Dry conditions have prevailed
since the last inspection and the site would benefit from precipitation. This will be the eighth
growing season for the majority of the reclaimed facility area.
Revegetation
Litter cover continues to be excellent due to better than average growth last season. This
site has successfully achieved a Phase II bond release for the main facility area.
Soil Methane Area
The soil methane area continues to be generally dormant sue to dry conditions and the cool
temperatures that occur at this elevation. Any additional moisture or precipitation will likely
stimulate this are and help identify to what extent the soil methane area has changed and
whether the area will again support vegetation. Most soil methane monitors appear in good
condition and the DMG recommends another annual monitoring of the area this field season.
The site appeared normal for the early spring season and in good condition.
