III. COMMENTS - COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection conducted by Kent Gorham of the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. This former underground site is entirely reclaimed. Ground
conditions on this day were dry and the weather was very hot. Mr. A.J. Iuppa, the
landowner at the site, opened the gate allowing access to the area.
Availability of Records
The public copy of the mine records is kept at the shop building on the site. First
quarter sediment pond inspection and first quarter refuse pile inspection were found as
required. All other required records were found as detailed on the attached checklist.
Hydrologic Balance
The sediment pond at the site is nearly dry and cattails cover 95~ of the pond. The
ditch system directing disturbed area runoff appeared functional. The mine has not
experience any storm events that would produce runoff since the last inspection.
Processing Waste
The non-topsoiled portion of the refuse slope was interseeded earlier this season. Some
grass sprouts were noted, especially where the long stem hay was thicker. Cicer
milkvetch was noted, but is suffering due to the heat and the grasshoppers. Rabbitbrush
and Sage were also observed. The 100-year ditch above the refuse disposal area was
traversed along its entire length and appeared in good condition.
Revegetation
Cattle are no longer grazing the main reclaimed area. Cattle were recently let into
the former area of the topsoil stockpile. Cocklebur weeds were cut as they were
encountered.
Overall, the site appeared in average condition for summer
needed.
Rain is desperately
Page 3
