111. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion.of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions-taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. .
This aerial inspection was flown on Mazch 2, 2005 and the digital images were reviewed on Mazch 7,
2005. There were no compliance problems observed during the overflight of the mine site. Most of the
mine site disturbed azea on the hill slope was covered in snow, whereas most of the flat disturbed area
was free of snow. There was no activity on site.
Roads
Only the upper half of the paved haul road was visible in the digital image and no problems were
noted.
Facilities
There did not appeaz to be any problems with the bridge and the abandoned mine office building.
Hydrology
There was some standing water in the sediment pond but it did not appeaz to be above the level of the
primary spillway. The sediment pond embankment appeazed to be stable. The collection ditch Leading
to the north side of the pond appeared tb be functional.
The Edwards Portal spring mine water treatment pond appeared to be functioning properly. The water
level in the pond was at its usual elevation. The pond embankrent and inslopes appeazed to be stable.
The berm between the mine site and the river appeazed to be functional.
Reclamation
The area of the hill slope that did not have snow cover coincides with the azea where high temperatures
and smoke/vapor have been noted by Division personnel in the past. During the last field inspection, a
small slide occurred at the base of the hill where the west spring comes out of the hill slope. This small
slide, not covered in snow, was visible in the digital images.
The hillslope just to the west of the disturbed azea continues to slowly creep down hill.
c:/word/beaz3/insp0305
