t
III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE So~~~~ ~ ~~-0/~/
46~ Oo ~~
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was an aerial inspection of the Southfield Mine. The photographs were taken by
Harry Ranney of CDMG. The mine was actively hauling coal and refuse (it was not
readily apparent as to whether they were producing coal). It appeared that it was
overcast and there was snow on the ground.
Ponds 1 and 2 contain water and appear to be in good condition. Pond 1 looks like
it is covered with ice. Pond 5 contains a small amount of water and appears to be in
good condition. There were no photos taken of ponds 3 and 4.
The refuse pile looked like it was in good condition and is within its permitted
boundary. There did not appear to be any water pooled on the pile. The operator
was actively dumping refuse and working on the pile.
The mine entry road and the haul road to the refuse pile appeared to be in good
condition.
