III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE <br />Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made <br />during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the <br />inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action. <br />On May 13, 1997, William J. Caner and Joe Dudash from the Division of Minerals and Geology, <br />performed a partiil inspection of the Hawk's Nest Mine. <br />Roads• <br />The State Highway [hat passes through the site continues to develop damage due to the two seeps <br />from the azea near the east portal. <br />9-Ytdeoloeic Balance: <br />Both seeps at the east portal continue to discharge as indicated above. <br />The sedimentation pond contains between one and two feet of water. <br />Several additio~a4 seeps have appeared south of the old State Highway on the eastern <br />portion of the site. These seeps appear to be bringing visible salts to the surface. <br />1~':si7 end' F~IBidlife: <br />V~Iildlife continues to he very active on the vegetated areas of the site. <br />a2detCZ_wt:.;c: <br />On~y sparse vegetation is growing on the eastern portion of the site, below the old State <br />..igh :~~ay. <br />
