(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1979-010
INSPECTION DATE 9/26/05
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS ESC
This was an inspection of the Avrey Construction Pit conducted by Erica Crosby of the
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology. Kayette Hutchison of ACA Products, Inc. was
present during the inspection. The site is located 1 mile south of Buena Vista in Chaffee
County, Colorado.
The Avrey Construction Pit is a 112 sand and gravel operation, permitted for 108 acres. The
112 permit was issued on January 15, 1980 for 40 acres. In 1999 the permit was amended to
add 68 acres to the permit area. The Division holds a reclamation bond in the amount of
$108,000.00. The approved postmining land use is rangeland.
A mine identification sign was observed at the entrance to the site. Permit boundary markers
were noted on site. Mining was actively taking place during the inspection. Product
stockpiles were noted in the bottom of the pit. Awash plant and settling ponds were noted.
In 1999, Technical Revision 01 (TR-O1) was approved by the Division that outlined disposal of
inert material in the pit in the form of broken concrete and small amounts of metal waste
generated at the site.
Topsoil and overburden piles were noted along the perimeter of the permit area. The piles
contain little to no vegetation with the exception of annual weeds. The operator will need
to stabilize the piles to prevent wind and water erosion. The operator will need seed the
piles with the approved seed mixture. See page 3 for further detail.
The operator discussed expanding the mining area to the north. Currently it is an open field
adjacent to the pit and immediately south of a residential area. Such expansion would
require an amendment to the permit.
I & S Coatact Address
^ CE
NAME John Hollenbeck ^ BL
OPERATOR ACA Products ^ FS
STREET PO Box i8B7 ^ HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Buena Vista, CO 81211 ^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
cc: Carl Mount; DMG (via a-mail)
