Present during the inspection were Harry Posey from DMG and Joe
Galliano and Matt Welte of summit Brick and Tile. Approximately 4 acres
appeared to have been disturbed; the disturbed area appeared to be stable.
Pit floors were holding some water. PH was measured at 5.47.A portion of
the permit area was walked to verify permit boundary markers. The operator
stated that the pit is mined on as need basis and is permitted to affect
only 25 acres at any given time, prior to posting additional warranty.
However the warranty is only $25,000, which is less than $1000/acre. Given
the Division's past experiences of cost per acre to reclaim such mining
projects, it appears to be a bit low. On the average, mines such as this
can not be reclaimed for less than $2000/ acre .The operator was notified
arrd agreed to post $2000/acre with in 60 days from receipt of the
inspection report. Because the existing warranty is more than adequate to
cover the current affected acreage, the fact that the cost/ per acre is
low, will not be reported as a possible problem. Permit sign properly
posted.
18.
