III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the inspection
and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
Site sedimentation Ponds 002, 003, 004, 008, the Pecoco, and the Truck Wash Ponds were
inspected. Site sedimentation ponds 003 and the Truck Wash Holding Pond were full and
dischazging clear water. All other site ponds were retaining water but not discharging. Pond
inlets and embankments appeared stable and no problems were noted at any of the pond
locations.
Backfill & Gradine
Several remaining areas at the site require backfill and grading. These include the Wadge East
Pit Area, a small area surrounding PM-5, and a topsoil stockpile location north of Road F1. A
large area of backfill and grading has recently been completed south of the Wadge Impoundment.
This area south of the Wadge Impoundment has been topsoiled, hydromulched and seeded.
Several remaining roads at the mine site will require topsoiling and seeding.
As discussed with SCC and representatives of Montgomery Watson Hazza, SCC will file an
application with the Division requesting a delay in contemporaneous reclamation for the
remaining areas to be backfilled and graded. This application will include a revised backfill and
grading schedule. Revised timeframes for completing all remaining reclamation activities
(postmine drainage channel construction and road reclamation) will also be provided.
