III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE /
Py/I ~~1 ~..c ~..~U-OOf
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discus i n of observations
made during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during
the inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a complete inspection of the Hayden Gulch Mine conducted by Jim Stark of
CDMG. The mine site is reclaimed. The weather was warm and overcast and the
ground was dry. While I was on the 1994 slump area it tried to rain (several drops fell
over the course of a few minutes) but there was not even enough to wet the ground.
Availability of Records: All of the required records were available at the Montgomery
Watson Harza offices in Steamboat Springs. For more details on the records see the
records checklist at the end of this inspection report.
Signs and Markers: All of the permit boundary and mine ID signs were posted. The
fences around the three shrub parcels were in good condition and marked.
Hydrologic Balance: -All of the ponds are permitted as permanent. Pond 003
contained a very small amount of water but was not discharging. The pond was well
vegetated and appeared to be in good condition.
- Pond HG-8 also contained water. This pond was not discharging either. The pond
was well vegetated and appeared to be in good condition.
Fish and Wildlife: No wildlife was observed at the site during this inspection. There
were, however, cattle grazing on the reclaimed areas outside of the shrub parcels
and on the outer edge of pond HG-8. It did not appear that they had grazed on the
1994 slump area, though.
Revegetation/Reclamation Success: The three shrub parcels are all doing well. The
shrubs are all green and appear to be in good condition. The grasses in the shrub
parcels are also green and appear to be doing well. The parcel that is located
below the 1994 slump area appears to have the densest shrub cover followed by
parcel HG-08. The 1994 slump area is also covered with grass and appears to be
stable.
Slides and Damage: The steel stakes that have been placed across the 1994 slump
area remain in alignment. There was no water coming out of any of the five French
Drain pipes below the slump area.
