OBSERVATIONS
The following observations were made during an inspection of this 65 acre
open 112 site.
At the Operator's request, DMG conducted an inspection to check on both the
current and proposed changes at the site and their impact on the current
financial warranty. At this time, no new acreage has been disturbed since
the last inspection conducted on June 18, 1996. The pit has been excavated
another 10 feet in areas previously disturbed, but the mining plan has been
adhered to, and grading and topsoil replacement will follow the already
established guidelines.
The City of Aurora is currently establishing plans both for the extension
of 6th Avenue past the south side of the site, and the moving of a sewer
line along the north side. Hart & Associates is working on an technical
plans which will be added as an amendment to the permit, which would
decrease the proposed lake area to be left on site and increase wetlands
area by about 20 acres. The current plans appear to be consistent with the
current level of disturbance.
Once the amendment is submitted, the bond will need to be recalculated for
the proposed reclamation plan changes. After City approval has been gained,
DMG will wish to examine the changes to the site and evaluate whether any
increase to the bond will be necessary.
Some of the topsoil stored onsite has been used to reclaim 1-2 acres near
the east side of the disturbance area. There has been no other change to
the topsoil stockpiles at the site, and it should be noted that the former
deficit still stands, although it does not effect the financial warranty at
this time.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Bruce Peterson
OPERATOR Rio Grande S&G
STREET 201 Santa Fe Dr.
CITY/STATE/ZIP Denver, CO 80223
cc: Carl B.
