Apre-operation inspection was made of the Baculite Mesa Pit. The site is located 2.5
northeast of Pueblo.
2. The Baculite Mesa Pit will be permitted for 1970 acres of affected land, with 40 acres
being the maximum disturbance at any one time. The reclamation cost has been calculated at
$60,076. The post-mining land use is rangeland.
3. The operator has posted a notice near the site entrance which specifies that an
application for a mining and reclamation permit has been submitted to the Division of
Minerals and Geology.
4. The entire area to be permitted was inspected. There will be no mining within 200 feet
of permanent man-made structures nor will there be any interferance of surface water. The
Nussbaum Spring was inspected. The spring is used apparently as a source of water for
livestock.
5. The Kirkland Pit #13 was also inspected which occurs within the permit area of the
Baculite Mesa Pit. The 111 contract included in Permit M-96-006 has been fulfilled and the
lease granted to Kirkland Construction by the landowner is soon to expire. Upon expiration
of the lease Baculite Mesa LLC will then become the operator and continue mining the sand and
gravel deposit in that area.
6. Photographs were taken of the structures and vegetation within the area to be permitted
and are included with this report.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Fred Orr
OPERATOR Baculite Mesa, LLC
STREET 5040 Acoma
CITY/STATE/ZIP Denver, CO 80216
cc: Joe Gagliano
Barnhart Agency, Inc.
212 West 13th Street
Pueblo, CO 81003
cc: Jim Stevens, DMG
^ CE
^ BL
^ FS
^ HW
^ HMWMD (CH)
^ SE
^ WQCD (CH)
^ OTHER
