Richard Coulson of Coulson Excavating was present
during the inspection.
The Kirtright Pit is located 5 miles southeast of Loveland in Lorimer County, Colorado.
An 112c Mining and Reclamation Permit was issued on October 24, 1986 for a permit area of
79.8 acres. The postmining land use is wildlife habitat and the Division holds a financial
warranty in the amount of $58,400.00.
The site is actively being "wet mined" in the west end of the pit. The pit depth is
approximately 10 feet, where 4 feet consists of sand and gravel. The remaining material is
overburden and topsoil. The excess material is used to backfill the site above the
groundwater table. A large topsoil pile was noted that will be used for reclamation when
mining is completed in the area. The operator expects to be completed with mining by next
year.
The current reclamation map depicts two small ponds on the south end of the site. The two
ponds will be the only exposure of groundwater on site. The pond elopes are partially
graded. The operator will need to ultimately grade the pond slopes to 3h:ly and be seeded
with the approved seed mixture.
Annual weeds dominate the areas that have been revegetated. The operator should continue to
mow the weeds to help the perennial grasses to establish in the area. If weeds continue to
dominate the area, reseeding may be required.
I & B Coatact Address
^ CE
NAME Mr. Richard Coulson ^ BL
OPERATOR Coulson Excavating Co., inc. ^ FS
STREET 3609 N.
