MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID#: M-1973-021 PAGE: 4
]INSPECTION DATE: 6-26-01 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ACS
quarry were inspected. The Operator spreads and compacts non-
marketable material onto the benches to form a wedge of fill resulting
in a smooth, steep hillside appearance, rather than a series of benches
<ind highwalls. This reclamation technique results in visuasl impacts
k>eing minimized and provides locations for disposal of crusher reject
rind other unsalable dirt. No indications of slumping in the fill
::lopes were observed during this inspection. Neither was any large
e:cale erosion of the fill observed. Revegetation and weed control on
t:he steep slopes will be challenging, but once vegetation is
Eastablished the bench backfilling method employed at the Morrison
()uarry should prove superior to other open pit slope r.=_clamation
practices.
C)ther observations: Reclamation along the west side (east facing) wall
of the north quarry was observed from a distance. Survival of trees in
this area, and the extent of cover of herbaceous pl,snts, are
indications that the quarry can be revegetated successfully. However,
most of this reclaimed area will be redisturbed under the current
c;uarry reclamation plan. Finally, it was noted that construction has
riot commenced on the engineered backfill slope proposed for the
s>outhwest corner of the north quarry. The approved mined land
zeclamation permit provides for inspections by the Division of Minerals
rind Geology during construction of underdrains for the engineered fill
:;lope.
Operations at the Morrison Quarry appear to be proceeding in accordance
with the terms of the approved permit. No problems were noted during
this inspection.
cc: Carl Mc•unt, DMG
Jim Stevens, DMG
Mr. Kent Pease
Haley and Aldrich
110 16th Street
Suite 900
Denver, CO 80202-
5202
I & E Contact Address
nfAME Mr. Mike Refer
OPERATOR Aagre4ate Industries - WCR.
