(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID #: M-1983-216
INSPECTION DATE: 8-19-05
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRM
This inspection was conducted as part of the normal monitoring program established by the Colorado Division of
Minerals and Geology. The Lumsden Canyon Pit is located northwest of Gateway on 4.1 Road. The County
maintains this pit for material to repair roads in the area. Bud Thompson, Mesa County Transportation contact for
gravel pits was not able to meet with the inspector.
Signs and boundary mazkers were noted as being in place. There has been no excavation for sometime, but a major
stockpile is still present. No equipment or support materials aze kept on site currently.
Slopes have been graded to 2:1 or better. Vegetation is noted as doing very well. Rabbit Brush, four-winged
saltbush, and several species of grass aze well established on the slopes. The pit floor has some vegetation but the
majority of the area will need to be ripped and seeded once the stockpile has been removed.
I{napweed was noted in the pit floor area. The County has been spraying weeds at all its sites. There was knapweed
noted in the last inspection, but the infestation has not expanded beyond what was noted at that time. The County
should note that the weeds would have to be eradicated at this site prior to any release approval.
If no more excavation is planned at the site, the County should consider a partial release request for the slopes ofthe
mine. Vegetation is equal to or better than the surrounding area and slopes are stable. Reclamation of these slopes
appears to be complete.
No issues or problems aze noted at this time.
Responses to this inspection report should be directed to Russ Means at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand Junction
Field Office, 101 South 3rd Street, Room 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, phone no. 970-241-1117.
I & E Contact Address cc:
^ CE
NAME: Bud Thompson ^ BL
OPERATOR: Mesa Co.
