(Page 2)
MINE iD # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-1989-030
INSPECTION DATE 4/15/02
OBSERVATIONS
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
This inspection was performed by the Division as part of its monitoring of Construction Materials 112 permits. The
operator's representative named on page one was present throughout the inspection.
The site was inactive at the time of the inspection. No equipment, parts, hydrocarbons, contaminants were at the site.
No noxious weeds were observed.
This site was converted to a 112 permit in 1998. Permitted area is 50 acres, with a maximum disturbed area of 25 acres.
The operator is approved to have up to 15 acres disturbed at any one time, with 5 of those acres being under concurrent
reclamation. The operator is complying with the approved plan.
There has been some difficulty with wet ground on and below the western pit floor level. The operator has chosen to not
mine as deeply during recent excavation, creating a separate bench of unmined material about ten feet higher. Future
mining will likely continue eastward with this upper bench elevation being the new pit floor. Mining involves pushing
material down the slope at a 3:1 gradient. The native material is very cobbly and the interim slopes created during mining
appear stable. There is no sediment transport or erosion. There is no seepage exhibited on the mined slope or impounded
water on the floor.
Topsoil is stockpiled along the southern edge of the pit. It is thin and rocky, but the operator has salvaged and stockpiled
it adequately. As the operation moves northward, some reclamation may be possible along this south edge. Some of the
woody debris which has been removed before mining could be broken and mixed with the soil or scattered after soil
replacement.
This inspector wishes to compliment the operator for running a clean, orderly operation.
There were no additional items observed or discussed. No problems exist at this time. All responses or questions about
this inspection report should be directed to this inspector at the Division's Durango Field Office.
