M1NE ID # OR PROSPECi1NG ID #: nn_~nm-ina
INSPECTION DATE: >>/Z/nx INSPECTOR~SINITIALS: KAP
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was performed as part of the Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety's four-year
monitoring program. Present at the inspection were Kate Pickford, DMG, and Phil West, Alamosa
County Road and Bridge Department. Weather at the time of the inspection was clear, calm, and
approximately 60 degrees.
2. A sign is posted at the entrance to the site and the boundaries are easily identifiable in the field. The site
is adjacent to a pit operated by Southway Construction, and the south boundary of the county pit
extends across the shared access road for the sites and into a stockpile affiliated with the Southway site.
The disturbance at this site consists of a large, square pit covering most of the permitted site, 15 to 20
feet deep. The highwalls are graded to 3:1 slopes and the west slope is covered with topsoil and
vegetation is becoming established.
3. During this inspection the southwest corner of the pit was being backfilled. A large ditch had eroded
out in the corner of the pit, probably due to overflow of an irrigation ditch on the adjacent property.
The erosional feature was almost completely filled in and graded flush with the remainder of the slope
at the time of the inspection.
4. There is still some area in the eastern portion of the permit area that can be mined out. Currently the
topsoil is stored in this area of the permit. The topsoil stockpile is devoid of adequate vegetative cover
and if the county does not apply the stockpiled topsoil by next summer, the pile must be seeded with
appropriate vegetation to comply with the Rules and Regulations for the Extraction of Construction
Materials.
5. According to Mr. West, the county intends to continue using the site for obtaining material. Mr. West
indicated that the county plans to submit an application to convert the site to a 1 12 permit.
Alternatively, the county has been approved to mine to depths of 40 feet at the site. Therefore, in lieu
of a conversion to expand the acreage, the county could continue to mine deeper in the existing pit. I
the county chooses to submit an application for a conversion to a 1 12, the Division will not need to
conduct an inspection of the site relative to the application if the application is received within 60 days
of this inspection.
I & E Contact Address Cc~ ^ BL
NAME: Phil West ^ FS
^ HW
OPERATOR: Alamosa County Road and Bridge ^ HMWMD (CH)
STREET: P n Rax 1JA ^ SE
CITY/STATE/ZIP: Alamaan CCU R1lnl ^ WQCD (CH)
X Other:
