Or1ce the flow is backed up behind the cotutriction there is a defined relationship between tltc depth ttp strcanT <br />and the flow through the constriction. This relatio]rship can either be an equation or a look- up table. For a fl umc m x•ork <br />properly them must be a free Flow out of the flume. The flow cannot be hacked up dnwnstrealn or the reading will lx <br />erroneous and misleading. <br />Make sure that you have free-flowing water without major inflows downstream of the Flume. I'he level of 11ow atn be <br />measured by a Float in an adjacent stilling well, a pressure trertsducer (this is not great F<tr heads of 0-2'), or by an <br />uplooking or downlooking ultrasonic sensor. We recommend an uplooker first, and a downlouker if the uPlooker wo»t <br />work in your application. <br />There are basically 3 types Of flurnes:.the Palmer-Bolus flume, the Parshall [lame, and the H Flume. Palmer-Bolus <br />constricts the [low vertically and horizontally and can be molded to be inserted ittto an existing half-round pipe. The <br />Parshal] constricts primarily horizontally. H flumes attach to theends of pipes where the water is free-falling. <br />The flumes listed below arc constructed of high quality polyester resin and fiberglass.
