(Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-
INSPECTION DATE
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS GRS
This was a pre-operational inspection of the Wattenberg Lakes site, conducted as part of the
Division's review of Aggregate Industries` application for a 112c reclamation permit. The
inspection was conducted by Gregg Squire of the Division of Minerals and Geology. Connie
Davis representing Aggregate Industries and Bill Schenderlein of the Applegate Group were
also present. Weather conditions on site were clear and warm. Ground conditions were
somewhat wet because of recent precipitation.
Prior to the actual inspection of the site the mine plan map was reviewed and the general
mine plan was discussed. The site was then toured, the permit boundaries located and the
permanent structures on or within 200 feet of any proposed mining disturbances were examined.
These structures include oil and gas facilities, homes and other buildings, roads and
ditches, including the Huett Pitch, and several power lines.
A public notice was posted at the site, another one had been posted but was either blown away
or removed by someone. The current land uses consist primarily of grazing and a plant
nursery. The site is adjacent to the South Platte River and is utilized by numerous bird
species, several prairie dog towns were also noted on the site.
General areas of concern, some of which have already been addressed in the application,
include stability and set back issues for permanent man made structures, including the
ditches, and the potential for ground water impacts due to dewatering of the pits and the
installation of the slurry walls.
In summation, although there are some areas of concern, it does not appear that there are any
issues which would preclude the permitting of the site.
I & E Contact Address
r CE
NAME Bill Schenderlein r BL
OPERATOR Applegate Group, Inc. r FS
STREET 1499 W. 120th Avenue, Suite 200 r HW
CITY/STATE/ZIP Denver, CO 80234 r HMWMD (CH)
r SE
r WQCD (CH)
Cc: Connie Davis, Aggregate Industries - WCR, Inc.
