111. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Trinidad Basin Mine for the month of Janurary, 1997. The
permit was revoked and the bond was forfeit at this site.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE: Snow is still blanketing the site, and no attempt was made to
inspect the upper portion of the southern end of the mine. Ponds 15-P1, 15-P2, and 15-P12
had water in them but were not discharging. Ponds 15-P8 and 15-P11 were inspected and
other than 6-10" of snow, were dry. All inspected ponds appear stable. The site is reasonably
stable and should make it through the winter without any significant erosion.
ROADS: The access road to the south east ponds is totally covered with snow and should
remain stable for the remainder of the winter. Although not plowed, the north access road
appears to be passable and stable.
