III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection of the Seneca II Mine conducted by Erica Crosby of DMG. No
company representative was present during the inspection. The Seneca II Mine status is active.
Both the Wadge and Wolf Creek Pits are open, and roughly 70 to 80 tons of coal is exposed and
will be removed. Both pits are on their final cut. The inspection involved viewing five aerial
photographs taken by Harry Ranney of DMG on March 18, 1997. Snow cover was present
throughout most of the mine site.
Roads The haul roads are clear of snow cover and appear passable. The in-pit haul roads are
under snow cover.
Hydrologic Balance A majority of the mine site was under snow cover. The Pecoco
impoundment contained water, and appeared to be discharging. No major erosion features were
noted.
Backfilling & Grading Both the Wadge and Wolf Creek Pits are open, and are on their final cut.
Backfilled areas appeared stable, and no erosion problems were noted.
