The State Mined Land
F:crlamation Di visicm was notified about my schedule and was able to
send some~~ne to j~~in me ~~n the inspection.
Tlie mine is in approved temporary cessation (January C'7, 19867 with
no r~ng~~ing activity underground or nn the surface. TFie pr~rtal.s; the
manway, beltline, and two er:f,aust 'Fan ~~penings are ~=1.-,red tc~ pr.rblic
~ac~=Ass. Mine fans were nc~t operating during the in=_pectivn and
appeared a=_ though they could nqt be started back up unless they were
worked on first:. r_.,-,pies cif the appr~~ved mine plan and accessory
records are 5t ored in the nearby city cif Oa1t Cree4;, Cr~l~'~rado at the'
Hc~vi. Aute F'ar'ts Stare. Monitarinq records are available from an
ad.jarent landowner and part time rareta{:er of tiie property, a Mr.
Fred k'uchta.
Mast of the mine surface was snow revered with portions bladed off
~F r•r a~=cess. The sediment pr.nd and the rest of tV~e drainage control
system was also snow revered. The was no discharge occurring frr,m
the sediment pond during this inspertic~n. We attempted to wa14; alc,ng
the emban{::ment ref the pond to determine the integrity of the
5t Yllr tLlYe and discharge system. No apparent problems were noted.
The State asl.ed the vperatr~r to move all of the fifty gallon drums
that have petrr. products in them to the corn_ret-e pad far the crusher
and suing plant during an earlier inspection of the mine. That tas4:
F~as been completed. A71 of the fuel tan4a were empty with the
e,r,cepti~~n of a .°,Crp hundred gallon container near the footer for one
of the ~=aa1 storage bins. There aF~peared to be same roil in the
eastern most overhead storage bin. As to the amount of coal in the
bin it was Bard to determine but if I had to estimate, it is less
than a quarter full. The bins sh~~uld be mr,nitcwed during future
inspe~=tions to see ii coal stored in them changes. All cif the mine
buildings were locked to prevent ac~_ess. Power is can intr. the
transf~~rmer st~~ti~=~n and apparently there is same use of some of the
buildings can an oc~=assional basis. As we inspe~=ted the mine c~ffir_e,
I noti~=ed that vne •.f the fuese bosses on the bar 1: cif the building is
~~pen and was used as a nesting site last summer. This is dangerous
