+`` ~ (Page 2) •
MINE ID f OR PROSPECTING ID ;)` M-61-044
INSPECTION DATE 07/18/96 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS RCO
OBSERVATIONS
This partial inspection was performed by the Division ae part of its monitoring of 112
permits. The inspection was scheduled due to this inspector being in the nearby vicinity on
another inspection. The operator was contacted and was present for the inspection.
The site is identified by a sign at the entrance to the pit. Boundary markers were indicated
by the operator, and consist of fence poste.
The operation is progressing to the west. A level floor ie resulting from excavation of
material. The permitted operator and the county are carrying out separate operations in the
pit. There does not appear to be any processing onsite at this time. Mining involves the
pushing down of material at a 3:1 gradient from the top of the elope. Mixing of the
aggregate and clay materials is accomplished during this pushing, and creates a good road
base. There were no atockpil~ae, though there was a large volume of bermed material located
along the base of the elope, waiting for the day's trucks.
Topsoil was stockpiled outside of the pit, especially along the north edge. There ie a
substantial volume present, which appears to be sufficient for reclamation (though the volume
was not measured). The piles were graded to average slopes of 3:1 and were vegetated with
grasses.
Portions of the north wall and south wall have not been used in several years. Those areas
of the walla which have not been reclaimed exhibit some erosion. The eroded material does
not travel far from the base of the slope, but the slope could continue to deteriorate if it
is not treated. Ponding on the floor of the pit speaks to the nature of the precipitation
event e, which can erode unpro=acted land quickly. The operator is encouraged to stabilize
these inactive elopes, especially if no further disturbance is expected there.
The site also contains a small sedimentation and runoff control pond, just south of the
entrance to the site. It appears to be in good repair, and consists of a low earthen (sandy)
berm.
These items were discussed with the operator during the inspection. There were no other
items observed or problems noted.
I & E Contact Address
NAME Bob Solberg
OPERATOR Solberg.
