• (Page 2)
MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-83-141
INSPECTION DATE 5/20/99 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS CLK
OBSERVATIONS
Upon the request of the Operator, DMG inspected the current state of this
site with regard to the difficulty of fulfilling the requirements of the current reclamation
plan.
1) At this time, all of the ore which the Operator wishes to remove, has been removed, from
the site. Two benches (around 5,000 - 10,000 tons) of ore have been left at the lower
edges of the site. Two buildings have been left in place on the northeastern corner of the
permit area, with steep drop-offs of about 7'-10' below them. The Operator has stated
their intention to begin reclaiming the site, or transfer the permit to the Landowner,
should he wish to continue operations here.
2) Granite deposits and outcroppings cross the site from north to south, with the mine road
running through and around the permit area. Continued sloping of the ore piles on the
south end may be possible, along with the construction of a stormwater runoff basin, as
was suggested by Maxine Stewart.
3) The site is very topsoil-poor, very steep, and very rocky. The current reclamation plan
calls for terracing, planting trees, and slopes of not less than 2H:1V. From observation
of current conditions, terracing and tree-planting may be practical but difficult, given
the soil, and soil amendments may become necessary. Sloping the portions of the site which
contain granite outcroppings to 2H:1V may not be possible without blasting some of the
granite pockets, so a modification of the permit plan may be in order.
4) The recent storms at the site have washed gullies downward across the entire face of the
permit area. A stormwater control, such as a berm across the main road, must be enacted
in order to prevent further erosion from other storms in the near future. (PH1)
All changes to the reclamation plan must be approved by DMG first, prior to implementation.
Any measures that would stabilize the slopes and allow the site to return to the beneficial
use designated by the permit, will be considered upon their submittal to the Division.
No other problems were noted at this time.
I & E Contact Address cc
NAME Maxine Stewart
OPERATOR ZTEC Environmental
STREET P.O.
