i
..
~I III. COMMENTS -COMPLIANCE
Below are comments on the inspection. The comments include discussion of observations made
during the inspection. Comments also describe any enforcement actions taken during the
inspection and the facts or evidence supporting the enforcement action.
This was a partial inspection conducted by Tony Waldron of DMG.
The mine is active and produces approximately 500,000 tons of coal
per year. The weather was clear and warm.
The inspection began by inspecting the access road to the #` 3
portal along with associated drainage features. The lower slide
area appeared to be stable and the slide spring was only producing
a slight trickle. The drainage ditches for the road and the
disturbed area above the road were clear and stable. Associated
culverts were clear and functional. The slide area near the # 3
portal was dry and no longer exhibited any movement. The material
that slid earlier this spring has been completely cleaned up and
the culverts and ditches were clear and functional. Ditches A and
B were both inspected and found to be functional. The sediment
pond contained a small amount of water below discharge level and
was stable. The Mine 1 and 2 reclaimed areas were inspected and no
problems were noted. The revegetation appears to have done very
well this year as all of the grass species were displaying
excellent seed heads and woody species appear to be invading
boundary areas. This concluded the inspection.
